MADRID, February 15, 2011 (AFP) - Spain has protested to Tehran over a "very serious" incident in which Iranian authorities detained a Spanish diplomat for four hours, the Spanish foreign ministry said Tuesday.
Spain warned it would recall its ambassador from Tehran for consulations if Tehran does not apologise or offer some valid explanation within 48 hours, said Foreign Minister Trinidad Jimenez.
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Clashes between Iranian police and tens of thousands of protesters wracked central Tehran on Monday killing one person, as opposition supporters tried to evoke the spirit of Egypt's recent popular uprising.
The opposition called for a demonstration Monday in solidarity with Egypt's popular revolt that a few days earlier forced the president there to resign after nearly 30 years in office. The rally is the first major show of strength for Iran's cowed opposition in more than a year.
Inspired by the triumphant uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt, young political activists in the southern city of Ahvaz in Iran have started writing anti-regime graffiti in public areas across the city on an extensive scale, according to Iran Khabar on Sunday.
Among the slogans is “Today Bin Ali, tomorrow Sid Ali,” referring to the deposed Tunisian president, and the regime’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
Wednesday, 09 February 2011 .TEHRAN, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Iran's science minister has called for universities to enforce strict sex segregation, saying allowing men and women to mingle on campus is a sign of the influence of alien western values, media reported Wednesday.
Fearing the growing popularity of the main opposition satellite channel, Iran National TV (Simay-e Azadi), the Iranian regime’s State Security Forces (SSF) in Esfahan have arrested 800 people during raids of houses and business to combat satellite viewership.
The state-run news website Saham News quoted Hassan Karami, the SSF’s commander in Esfahan, as saying, “Public security agents have carried out a planned operation to confiscate satellite equipment.”
