The execution of three prisoners in Orumieh (NW Iran) and one prisoner in Ahwaz (SW Iran) on May22, and two prisoners in Salmas (NW Iran) and Behbahan (southwestern Iran) on May 23, and 6 prisoners in Esfahan (central Iran) and Ahwaz on May17, are other accounts of this regime’s crimes in the recent days.
Earlier, the Iranian regime’s judiciary chief mullah Larijani expressed satisfaction regarding the recent wave of executions, stressing this trend will continue “with increasing might and resolve” (state-run Fars News Agency, April 13th, 2011). Other regime officials also continuously emphasize the necessity of “increasing the security factor” in the country.
The faltering clerical regime considers further executions, repression and killings as its only way to prevent increasing uprisings and popular protests, and to maintain the unbridled power struggle that has faced the regime with the most serious internal crisis in the past 3 decades.
The Iranian Resistance calls on the UN Security Council, UN Secretary General, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and all relevant international institutions to take urgent action to stop this rampant barbarism, and flagrant and systematic violations of human rights in Iran, demanding comprehensive sanctions against the clerical regime.
